4 Toothbrush Habits to Help You Fight Gingivitis

2. Go electric.

3. Bring in the baking soda.

Twice a week, mix a runny paste of baking soda and water and use it to brush your teeth. Baking soda is abrasive enough to scrape the plaque off your teeth and also neutralize bacteria and deodorize your mouth.

4. Use a water irrigator.

A water irrigator, such as WaterPik, is no substitute for flossing. It can, however, flush out food debris from gum pockets and reach between the teeth. The water pressure also massages the gums to help soothe swelling and inflammation.

All of these will help you fight gingivitis, but it is also important to visit your dentist’s office to receive professional cleaning regularly. For most people, twice a year of cleaning is all you need to make sure your teeth are plaque-free and your gums are healthy.
