Swiss Alps Outdoor Activities You Can Enjoy

When people go to Switzerland, a visit to the Alps is automatically included in their itineraries. And why not? The majestic mountain range offers breathtaking scenery and fun-filled activities. If you’re planning a visit to the Swiss Alps yourself, check out some of the activities you can do there during each season.

Summer activities

With the warm weather and most areas cleared of snow, summer is a great time to explore the mountains. Horseback riding, biking, and hiking in the Alps during an tour are just some of the ways you can leisurely enjoy the mountains during this season. If you’re up for a more thrilling experience, however, you can go mountain climbing, paragliding, or skydiving with the mountains as your backdrop. The peak summer months are July and August, which have an average daytime temperature of 18°C-28°C.

Winter Activities

Winter is the perfect time to engage in various snow-related activities. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding are, of course, go-to winter activities in the mountains. To have a unique experience, though, you can try dog-sleighing with Huskies, ice climbing, and even ice scuba diving. For aerial views of the snow-capped mountains, helicopter flights and hot-air balloons are also available. January and February are the peak winter months, with an average daytime temperature between -2°C and 7°C.

Spring and autumn activities

Although not all areas, accommodations, and transport in the mountains are open during spring and autumn, there are still many outdoor activities you can do during these seasons. In spring, parkour and zip line can be enjoyed in a forest fun park. You can also explore the Alpine region by bike, train, cable car, and boat during autumn. Spring is from March to May while autumn is between September and November. The average daytime temperature for both seasons is 8°C-15°C.

The Swiss Alps offer scenic views and exciting activities all throughout the year, so plan your trip now and cross off Switzerland on your travel bucket list.
